through the first forty minutes of Tuesdays game between the Candiens and the Lighting the Bolts had played like absolute trash. They were trailing 3-0 after two periods and were playing with no energy, no heart, not hustle. They couldnt play defense, they couldnt control the puck, they couldnt get good shots, they were stunningly bad. Through the first fourteen minutes of period three the energy picked up and they were playing better, but still couldnt get a goal to fall in. With six minutes to go, and still trailing 3-0, it appeared a done deal the Bolts would continue to spiral downward to their third straight loss. I remember saying to myself, "how in the world are they going to get three past this goalie in six minutes?" then laughed and said "they're not!" Then, hope, as Hedman tipped a puck in with 5:56 left on the clock, 3-1. For the next three minutes the Bolts continued to attack, but couldnt find the net again. With two minutes left they still trailed 3-1 and once again it appeared a done deal they would lose. Then, hope, as Hedman again tipped on in with 1:43 on the clock, 3-2. The with 1:04 left, the Lightning were awarded a power play and suddenly the comeback was very much alive. 20 seconds into the power play and Sami Salo took a shot from the point that slowly trickled in with 43.3 seconds on the clock, 3-3, and an amazing comeback showing why hockey is the best sport in the world. the Bolts would lose in the shootout 1-0, but still salvaged a point in the standings, which is really all you can ask for when trailing 3-0 with six minutes left.
Lindback earned the second star with 31 saves including three or four highway robbery saves. Hes given up some goals but he has already provided plenty of moments that make your eyes pop out of your head in amazement.
Hedman earned the first star with two goals. I believe Rick Peckham said it was the first multi goal game of his career, but Im havent looked up if that is the case, nor am I going to. Congrats either way
Brewer was a -2, the worst on the team. His traffic cone defense is back baby
This is as good as you can possibly feel after a loss. Hopefully this comeback will spark a resurgence and a nice winning streak. The Bolts are no longer in first within the division but very much within striking distance.
Another sellout at the forum. 7 for 7
Edit: I have confirmed it is the first multi goal game of Hedmans career, which is really surprising to me. Better late than never I guess.
