Lightning regain top form, rake the leafs away 4-2

After finally breaking a six game losing streak, the Lightning came back home to face the hottest goalie in the NHL, and they brought him back down to earth. Ben Scrivens had shutout opponents for the last 145 minutes, a streak that reached 154 minutes before Vinny broke through and made the game 1-0. The leafs tied the game on a somewhat fluke goal in the first, but then the Bolts calmed down and got the next three making for a 4-1 lead. Toronto got one in garbage time, and the final stood at 4-2

The Lightning finally went back to the strategy that worked for them during the 2010-11 campaign when they went to the Eastern Conference finals. That strategy was a defense first, disciplined hockey game, instead of aggressively pursuing offensive opportunities, sitting back and letting them come to you, and until they come just play strong defense. This was a strategy they got away from most of last year and this year, bit fully went back to it last night. Its shown on the score sheet, where the Bolts only got off 19 shots, but I cant be mad about that because thats the type of game they tried to play. Im hoping they stick with it.

Toronto racked up 45 minutes of penalties. I never took them for such a goon squad, I thought that was reserved for Philly and Boston, but I guess Toronto wants to join them.

Stamkos netted his 10th of the season. In order to score at a 60 goal pace in a 48 game season, he'll need to net 35.

The Plus minus star in the game? Eric Brewer believe it or not with a +2

With three assists tonight Pouliot has six points in the last two games. He has definitely joined Salo as a solid pickup for the team this year.

The Lightning finally won a game when tied after one period. They had been 0-5. They are now 5-0 when leading after two periods.

The Bolts are back in a tie for first in the dvision!

Southeast standings

2. Tampa Bay Lightning: 17 points
3. Winnipeg Jets: 13 points
4. Florida Panthers: 12 points
5. Washington Capitals: 11 points
